October through February is the post-harvest window already printed on the rice grades. Milled rice can still ship from stored lots in other months.
Buyers ask in October whether new-crop Pakistani basmati is milled yet. The post-harvest window Zarkaar already uses is October through February. That is when paddy moves, mills run, and offers are most often rewritten. It is not a promise that every grade is bagged on the first Monday of October.
Old crop and new crop are different lots. The lab sheet and the proforma name the lot you are buying. Zarkaar does not print a paddy auction price, does not own the mill, and does not issue an ageing certificate such as a fixed month-count of storage. If you need older grain, say so. If the mill cannot show that crop year, the offer will not pretend.
What to ask for in this window
The crop year does not replace the grade.
Name both
Write the grade and the crop. Super Kernel new crop is not IRRI-6 old crop. Sella or white is a third word. A buyer who says only new crop will be asked which grain.
Contracts and Ramadan
A season program can be discussed in this window. Saudi retail still needs SASO before stuffing, and Ramadan retail needs the lead time on the Ramadan page. A harvest rumour is not a stuffing date.
What growers should not read into this page
Zarkaar does not post a mandi rate for paddy and does not buy the standing crop on this URL. Rice seed for the next nursery is a May and June counter product. October at Shesha Basti is wheat sowing, not a rice-seed queue. Fertiliser for the wheat that follows rice is the rabi calendar.
