Basmati is a protected name.
The sheet has to earn it.
Length, broken grain, and moisture are measured. A logo is printed only when the lot is allowed to carry it. We do not own the mill.
Zarkaar uses the word basmati on an invoice, a bag, and a lab sheet only when the supplying mill’s contract uses that word and the sheet supports it. Premium length on our basmati sheet is about 7.5–8.4 mm. Moisture is 14 percent maximum. Broken grain on that premium sheet is 4 percent maximum. Super Kernel is longer, and its broken limit is 3 percent. Those numbers are the test. A marketing sentence is not.
Pakistan protects the name through a geographical indication. We do not print the GI mark, and we do not print a registration number, unless the lot in front of us is entitled to the mark and you asked for it before the artwork was approved. A number is not published on this website in any case.
What we will print
The bag and the invoice have to survive a customs exam and a retailer audit. We write only what the lot can defend.
The word itself
Basmati, Super Kernel, or 1121, matching the variety page and the mill contract. IRRI-6 and IRRI-9 are never described as basmati. A blend is described as a blend, with the ratio on the contract, or it is not packed.
Origin line
Pakistan, milled in Punjab. The Karachi Chamber certificate of origin certifies Pakistan. It does not, by itself, certify that a district schedule was met. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan are not rice desks of ours.
The mark we hold back
If your retailer requires a GI logo, say so with the artwork. We ask the mill whether that lot may carry it. If the answer is no, the bag is printed without the logo. We will not borrow a mark from another season’s scan.
What a buyer should not assume
A UK or EU preference, and the UK DCTS, depend on origin rules your broker applies at entry. Our chamber certificate is the Pakistan origin paper. It is not automatically the statement your broker needs for a preference. The international-trade pages separate those jobs.
Private-label rice is 5, 10, or 25 kg, about 25 metric tons in a 40-foot high cube. Your brand can sit on the bag. Your brand cannot rename IRRI as basmati. Saudi retail still needs SASO clearance before stuffing, and Halal remains mandatory on Gulf food lots.
